Frutiger Home Lets You Build a House Steeped in Windows Vista Nostalgia
A new Steam sim lets players decorate homes entirely in the glossy, rounded aesthetic of mid-2000s tech design, complete with iconic Windows wallpapers and dreamy color palettes.

Frutiger Home, a home decorating simulator, launched on Steam this week, offering players the chance to design and furnish homes using visual elements from the Frutiger Aero aesthetic. The style, a term retroactively coined by Consumer Aesthetics Research Institute co-founder Sofi Xian, describes the glossy, glassy design language that dominated technology and UI design from the mid-2000s to the early 2010s.
The game draws heavily from that era's visual language. Architectural themes, color swatches, and interior pieces all embrace the rounded, polished look characteristic of devices like the Zune and Windows Vista. Sharp corners are rare. Every surface that can be polished will be.
Players start in an empty home and can decorate using furniture and wall screens showing imagery from that period. One wall option displays clownfish and dandelions. Another shows citrus slices. Exteriors feature the impossibly green hillsides reminiscent of the classic Windows default wallpaper, stretching into the distance across a stylized landscape.
The game costs $5 on Steam. It arrives in 2026 as a deliberately retro experience, inviting players to inhabit the aesthetic of a time when technology still felt optimistic to many.
