German Counter-Strike organization FOKUS has benched head coach Jakub "kuben" Gurczyński after seven months in charge. The Polish coach joined FOKUS in February when the organization entered competitive Counter-Strike with an international roster led by Erik "ztr" Gustafsson.
FOKUS cited the decision to "move forward with a new direction for the team" without detailing replacement plans. The organization is currently ranked 55th globally by VRS.
The benching follows a mixed season for the roster. FOKUS finished 9th-16th in BLAST Bounty, placed 17th-32nd in the EWC open qualifier, and took 9th-12th at Stake Pulse Beat II. The team experienced roster changes over the summer, with Georgi "Jorko" Mitev and Sebastian "volt" Maloș departing, while Paavo "podi" Heiskanen and Jacob "jocab" Nerheden joined.
FOKUS have qualified for the playoff stage of NODWIN Clutch Series 12 and registered for ROG Journey Autumn, a $20,000 tournament in Skövde, Sweden.
The current FOKUS roster is: Matias "Banjo" Kivistö, Mateo "Matheos" Prišlin, Erik "ztr" Gustafsson, Paavo "podi" Heiskanen, and Jacob "jocab" Nerheden. Jakub "kuben" Gurczyński remains listed as benched coach.
