Fired Rockstar Developers Tell Fans Not to Boycott GTA 6, Ask for Legal Fund Support

A group of developers who were controversially let go from Rockstar Games have urged fans not to boycott the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6. Instead, the affected workers are asking supporters to back their ongoing legal proceedings by purchasing a newly launched t-shirt through the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB).

All proceeds from the merchandise will directly help the 34 former Rockstar employees involved in the case. According to the developers, they spent years contributing their skill, hard work, and creativity to build the game's universe, and they want fans to be able to experience it. A representative noted that the stance is not about letting Rockstar off the hook, but rather about winning justice for the individuals who helped create the title.

The legal dispute stems from last year's layoffs, which saw 31 workers in Britain and three in Canada cut loose. The developers stated in an advertising video that they were dismissed without representation, evidence, or a chance to respond. This sparked immediate protests outside Rockstar's Edinburgh base.

The final hearing for the case against the publisher is scheduled for September, where the workers will present arguments claiming Rockstar acted outside the bounds of the law. The outcome could potentially set important precedents for employee rights within the video game industry. Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently slated to launch on November 19, 2026.
