Final Fantasy VII Revelation uses PSSR on PS5 Pro for 4K and 60 FPS
Director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will leverage PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution on PS5 Pro to deliver 4K image quality alongside 60 frames per second gameplay.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will include a PS5 Pro-exclusive mode that combines 4K visuals with 60 FPS performance using PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), according to director Naoki Hamaguchi.
The mode, referred to as Versatility Mode, mirrors an optimization approach Square Enix used in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Hamaguchi stated in a social media post: "On PS5 Pro, by leveraging PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), we have implemented a mode that delivers both 4K image quality and 60 FPS gameplay. For players who want to enjoy REVELATION with both enhanced visual fidelity and smooth performance, I believe PS5 Pro will be one of the recommended ways to experience the game."
The base PS5 version will support three modes. Graphics mode prioritizes 4K resolution, while Performance mode targets 60 FPS with two quality options: Sharp for improved image clarity and Smooth for visual consistency. These modes are expected to carry over to Xbox Series X|S with similar specifications.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is confirmed to exceed 100 hours of gameplay and will launch April 8, 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game is reported to require over 200GB of storage space.
Previous use of PSSR in Rebirth's Versatility Mode drew some criticism regarding level-of-detail pop-ins. Square Enix has not yet confirmed whether Revelation uses an upgraded version of PSSR or disclosed specific optimizations for the PS5 Pro variant, though the development team continues refining performance before launch.
