Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s Physical Edition Requires Mandatory Download on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
The physical edition of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will require a mandatory internet download on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, while the Nintendo Switch 2 version features a Game Key Card.
Players purchasing the physical edition of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S will encounter a notable catch: the single-disc release requires an internet connection for a mandatory download before it can be played. This represents a departure from the previous two installments, which were distributed on two discs and were fully playable straight out of the box.
Meanwhile, physical buyers on Nintendo Switch 2 will receive a Game Key Card instead of a standard media disc. The requirement for a mandatory download arrives amid a broader context of declining manufacturer interest in physical media and growing concerns among physical game collectors.
Despite the physical edition constraints, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation introduces several notable gameplay additions. These features include a choice-driven approach, revamped minigames, a new FITS system, and mounted combat. Additionally, characters such as Sephiroth, Vincent, and the Turks will receive expanded story content via the Story Expansion Pass.
