Final Fantasy 7 Revelation adds automatic level-up option for story-focused players

Director Naoki Hamaguchi confirms the trilogy finale will let players automatically raise their party to recommended levels at certain story points, addressing feedback from Rebirth players who struggled when skipping side content.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will include an automatic level-up system designed for players who want to experience the main story without committing to extensive side content, director Naoki Hamaguchi has revealed.

Speaking with IGN Japan, Hamaguchi explained that the development team received significant feedback from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players who wanted to focus solely on the campaign but found themselves underpowered when skipping optional quests. Since side content naturally provides experience and character progression, players who avoided these activities often struggled to reach recommended levels for key story battles.

To address this, Revelation will prompt players at certain points in the game with the option: "Do you want to automatically raise the level to the recommended level?" Players can select yes to boost their party to the appropriate power level and continue with the main narrative, or decline to continue grinding traditionally.

Hamaguchi noted that this feature allows players to experience Revelation as a more linear campaign rather than engaging with its expansive open world. A typical playthrough of Revelation takes over 100 hours, making the automatic leveling particularly valuable for players with limited time or those primarily interested in story completion.

The automatic level-up system applies specifically to the main story progression. Players pursuing end-game content, including battles against the WEAPONs, may still need to engage in traditional grinding to prepare adequately.

Recent Final Fantasy re-releases have introduced similar quality-of-life features to reduce mandatory grinding. Intergrade and Rebirth versions released on Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 include Streamlined Progression features that maximize health, MP, and ATB during combat while increasing damage output, offering players alternative ways to pace their experience.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will launch for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on April 8, 2027. The game concludes the remake trilogy as Cloud and his companions prepare for a final confrontation with Sephiroth while facing the awakening WEAPONs and planetary chaos.
