Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will require about 200 GB of storage
Director Naoki Hamaguchi confirms the finale of Square Enix's remake trilogy will need roughly 200 GB, continuing the series' escalating storage demands. The physical release will still require an online download.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will require approximately 200 GB of storage space, according to series director Naoki Hamaguchi. The upcoming RPG marks the third and final entry in Square Enix's remake trilogy and continues a trend of increasing file sizes across the series.
The original Final Fantasy 7 Remake shipped at around 100 GB, while Rebirth increased to approximately 150 GB on PS5. Hamaguchi told VGC that Revelation's size reflects the team's commitment to quality. "Things are still getting worked out, but it's probably going to be around 200 GB of game," he said. "I understand there are a lot of opinions about this topic, but at the end of the day, the fact is we need to overcome the hardware to a certain extent."
The storage requirement is particularly notable given that the physical release will still require a day-one download. Unlike Remake and Rebirth, which both shipped on multiple discs with complete game access, Revelation cannot fit entirely on disc. Hamaguchi acknowledged this departure while emphasizing the importance of releasing a physical product. "Even though the game will not be on the full disc, in the position we're in, because discs may be dying out, or maybe staying, with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, we definitely wanted to deliver some kind of physical product. That was really important to us. Trust me!" he said.
Players planning to install Revelation should note that 200 GB represents nearly the entire storage capacity of Nintendo Switch 2. Rebirth occupied 102.5 GB on Switch 2 compared to 150 GB on PS5, suggesting the Switch 2 version may require optimization.
In related news, Hamaguchi confirmed that Revelation will receive two story DLC expansions. The first focuses on Sephiroth, while the second is titled Vincent and the Turks. Both are scheduled to release between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028. Hamaguchi described the DLC as "digging deeper into the characters of Vincent and Sephiroth," similar to the Intermission expansion included with the original Remake. He declined to specify whether the DLC stories occur before or after the events of Revelation, saying the timing would be revealed later.
