Square Enix has updated Final Fantasy 14's Materials Usage License, bringing changes to how players can create and share non-commercial fan-made merchandise.

The revision expands the types of physical fan goods that players are permitted to make, relaxing previous restrictions on what items fall under allowed fan creation. However, the update introduces notable new prohibitions: fan-made merchandise cannot be created using generative AI tools, and 3D printing is now explicitly banned as a production method.

The changes reflect Square Enix's attempt to balance creator freedom with control over how FFXIV's intellectual property is used and reproduced. By allowing broader categories of fan merchandise while restricting AI-generated content and 3D-printed items, the company aims to preserve handmade and traditional creation methods within its fan community.

Players and fan creators should review the updated license terms to understand which projects remain compliant under the new guidelines. The Materials Usage License governs non-commercial fan content, distinguishing it from Square Enix's separate policies on commercial use and monetized fan work.
