Final Fantasy 11 expands free trial to level 75 with no time limit
Square Enix has removed the two-week playtime restriction and raised the level cap from 50 to 75 on Final Fantasy 11's free trial, mirroring the approach that made Final Fantasy 14's trial popular with new players.

Final Fantasy 11's free trial has expanded significantly, removing the two-week playtime limit that previously locked players out and raising the level cap to 75. The changes went live today, making the trial substantially more accessible to newcomers exploring Square Enix's long-running MMO.
Previously, trial players faced a hard deadline after two weeks of play, forcing them to purchase the full game or stop playing. The level 50 cap also limited how much of the game's systems players could experience. These restrictions made the trial difficult for understanding FF11's mechanics, which one player noted was "far too intimidating" in the original two-week window.
The free trial still excludes expansion content and maintains several social restrictions. Trial players cannot access the auction house, trade with other players, carry more than 100,000 gil, or start parties. They can join parties created by full-game subscribers. These limitations parallel Final Fantasy 14's trial structure and are presumably designed to prevent gold farming.
Final Fantasy 11 remains active 24 years after launch, with a dedicated playerbase drawn to its emphasis on player-driven exploration and esoteric gameplay systems. The expanded trial follows Final Fantasy 14's proven strategy of using a generous introductory experience to attract new players. FF14's free trial helped popularize that game partly because it offered an accessible entry point to its story and gameplay loop, while FF11 appeals to players seeking a "crunchier" MMO experience with fewer hand-holding systems.
