Fatshark Reportedly Worked On a Scrapped Scream Video Game Discovered via Steam Leak

A recent Steam data leak reveals that developer Fatshark previously worked on a scrapped multiplayer Scream video game.

A recent data leak from Steam has reportedly revealed that a video game adaptation of the Scream franchise was previously in development at Fatshark, the studio known for Warhammer: Vermintide and Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. According to findings shared on X by user roly poly reaper, evidence of a scrapped multiplayer Scream game was uncovered while rummaging through leaked files. The user reportedly managed to get a build running and recorded gameplay footage from it.

The gameplay premise of the leaked project bears similarities to the Friday the 13th game. In this build, one player assumes control of the iconic masked killer, Ghostface, while the other players act as survivors trying to escape. Six builds of the Scream game were reportedly discovered within the data leak. It is currently speculated that the title was created simply as a pitch to secure the franchise license. The final build carries a date of February 2011, arriving just two months prior to the theatrical release of Scream 4.

Although this particular project never saw an official release, the Scream franchise has appeared in other gaming titles over the years, including appearances by Ghostface in Mortal Kombat 1 and Dead by Daylight. Meanwhile, the film franchise has continued to experience a resurgence following the release of 2022's Scream, followed by Scream VI in 2023 and an upcoming entry scheduled for 2026.
