An unofficial PC version of Fable 2, the Xbox 360 exclusive from 2008, has been released through a static recompilation project called Fable 2 Recomp. The port converts the original PowerPC game code into C++ at build time, allowing the game to run as a native Windows executable rather than through emulation.

The recompilation unlocks several improvements over the original. Fable 2 originally ran at 30 FPS on Xbox 360, but the PC port includes a 60 FPS option and an uncapped frame rate mode. The project also adds full keyboard and mouse support, with remappable controls and adjustable mouse sensitivity. Gamepad input remains supported alongside keyboard controls.

Graphics rendering options include D3D12 as the default renderer through a prebuilt GPU plugin. A Vulkan renderer is also in development, with basic pipeline functionality working while full game rendering through Vulkan remains in progress. Players can select their preferred renderer when launching the game.

Configuration is handled through human-readable TOML files. The latest version introduces a new config system that removes hard-coded settings, allowing players to customize specific game elements through fable2_config.toml and fable2_patches.toml files. Window size, fullscreen mode, and content folders can all be adjusted. Save files and caches are stored next to the executable, making the build portable across systems.

The port is still in early development stages and may contain bugs and glitches. As with other recompilation projects, the port does not include game assets. Users must provide their own Fable 2 ISO to run it. The project includes built-in patch support, FPS tools, logging, and debug features for testing and development purposes.
