Expanded Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo Released with New Content Ahead of September Launch

Capcom has released a significant update for the Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo, bringing fresh content to players ahead of the full game's launch on September 4, 2026. Initially debuting following a State of Play showcase in June 2026, the trial has now been expanded following an announcement at Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live alongside a new 30-second trailer.

Players who already have the demo installed on PlayStation 5 can access the new content via a 9.6GB patch, while new players can download the complete updated version directly from the PlayStation Store. Previously, the trial concluded after a boss battle against fellow undead swordsman Sasaki Ganryu during the title's first main story mission. The expanded demo pushes past that encounter, guiding players through a new otherworldly location and concluding with a second boss battle against a giant demon named Daidara. Additional enemies teased for the updated experience include encounters with Ifuu and Burai.

While progress made in the demo does not carry over to the full release, completing the trial grants players exclusive in-game rewards. In addition to the expanded PlayStation 5 demo, Capcom has made a free benchmark tool available for PC users to test system performance and determine if their hardware can handle the game, or if they should opt for a console version instead. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on September 4, 2026.
