Star Wars Zero Company hits 1M sales as furloughed developer team awaits reinstatement

Bit Reactor's XCOM-like tactics game has generated approximately $50m in revenue since launching in August, raising questions about whether the studio's unpaid staff will be rehired.

Star Wars Zero Company, the turn-based tactics game from Bit Reactor, has sold more than 1 million copies, according to estimates from industry analyst Alinea Analytics. The milestone carries added weight given that most of the development team was furloughed without pay before the game's release, reportedly due to a dispute between studio owners and lack of funds.

Revenue estimates suggest the game has generated approximately $50m since its 27 August launch. "This is respectable for this genre and during such a crowded period (even with the Star Wars brand attached)," said Alinea's Rhys Elliott. The sales performance now raises questions about whether the furloughed staff will be reinstated and compensated using the game's revenue.

Steam dominates the platform breakdown with 69.9 percent of copies sold, followed by PlayStation at 19.9 percent and Xbox at 10.2 percent. Despite lower console volumes, console players generated higher per-copy revenue. North America and Europe account for 90 percent of the audience, with Asia representing only 5 percent.

The game ranks among the top-five-earning releases of 2026 for major IP titles. The James Bond game 007 First Light leads significantly with $309.8m in revenue. Star Wars Zero Company joins recent releases The Blood of Dawnwalker and Onimusha: Way of the Sword in crossing the million-sales threshold.
