Even GTA 6 Is Poking Fun At Naughty Dog’s Lack Of New Games
Recent GTA 6 leaks feature a parody cover referencing The Last of Us, poking fun at Naughty Dog's minimal output during the PlayStation 5 generation.
Recent leaks surrounding Rockstar Games' highly anticipated title have revealed unexpected humor directed at fellow industry developer Naughty Dog. While Naughty Dog is actively working on its upcoming project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the studio has spent almost the entire PlayStation 5 generation without launching a brand-new, original video game title. Recent leaks from Cyberleek indicate that GTA 6 includes minute attention to detail, such as a collection of fictional video game covers found throughout the world. One particular cover discovered by players is a thinly veiled parody referencing The Last of Us series.
Spotted on a shelf in a screenshot shared online, the item is titled We Came Together: 1, 2, & 3 Remasters of the Remixes. The typography and logo style bear a strong resemblance to The Last of Us branding, complete with an orange splash detail. This lighthearted ribbing targets Naughty Dog's relatively small output during the PS5 era compared to the PS3 and PS4 generations. Modern game development complexity means projects take significantly longer, and Naughty Dog's resources were heavily tied up in the multi-year development and eventual cancellation of The Last of Us Online. During the PS5 era, the studio's releases have primarily consisted of remasters and PC ports for Uncharted and The Last of Us franchises.
Naughty Dog's next major release, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, remains slated for the PS5, with a separate report indicating heavy crunch to meet a mid-2027 window. If that title launches in 2027, it will mark the studio's first new non-remake or remaster release since 2020's The Last of Us Part 2, while unconfirmed rumors suggest a second team is developing The Last of Us: Part III. Meanwhile, Rockstar Games prepared to share an official look at GTA 6 on August 27 following a wave of leaks, with former Rockstar North director Obbe Vermeij commenting that the recent leaks are not as severe as previous controversies like the Hot Coffee incident.
