Entity Raises $5.8 Million to Build Browser-Based 'Console-Quality' Gaming Platform

Dublin startup Entity has secured $5.8 million in seed funding to develop a browser-based gaming platform targeting a launch in early 2027.

Dublin-based startup Entity has successfully raised $5.8 million (€5 million) in seed funding to construct a browser-based gaming platform. Founded in 2024 by veterans from the Irish studio Digit—the team behind Star Trek Fleet Command, which was acquired by Scopely in 2019—the company plans to officially launch the platform in early 2027. The opening lineup is expected to feature a mixture of original intellectual property alongside existing console and PC titles.

The platform relies on WebGPU and WebAssembly technologies, allowing users to dive directly into games or multiplayer lobbies using a single link without needing any downloads or installations. Entity emphasizes that unlike traditional cloud gaming services, nothing is streamed from a remote server, thereby removing round-trip data transmission and lag issues.

The funding round was backed by ACT, Delta Partners, and Elkstone, with additional support provided by Enterprise Ireland and a collective of games industry angel investors. The founding team consists of Rich Barnwell, Kev Bergin, Dave McGovern, Fergus Duggan, and Artur Stawiarski. They are joined by head of games Paul Farley, who previously founded Firestoke, Tag Games, and ChiliConnect.

"The way games are made, discovered, and played in the 'new web' era is fundamentally changing, and these games will need a new home," said Entity CEO and founder Rich Barnwell, noting that the industry has long been constrained by heavy downloads.
