Dune: Awakening Launches on Xbox with Single-Player Mode and Major Expansion
The open-world survival game arrives on Xbox Series X|S and PC Game Pass with a transformative update that adds full single-player support, story conclusion, expanded map, and customizable gameplay options.

Dune: Awakening is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming, with the release accompanied by a substantial update that overhauls how the game plays. The title was previously exclusive to PC, but the console arrival marks more than a straightforward port. Over the past year, developer Funcom has reshaped the game to broaden its appeal and accessibility.
The headline addition is a full single-player mode. Players can select from three difficulty presets or customize nearly every gameplay parameter individually. In single-player, you control sandstorm frequency, harvesting rates, XP multipliers, building limits, item durability, and many other systems. This allows players to experience Arrakis at their own pace without pressure from multiplayer dynamics.
The update also concludes Book One of the story. The Great Convention Part III brings the narrative arc to a complete ending, allowing players to run through the entire story from beginning to end in a single playthrough for the first time. Every story mission now rewards players with cosmetic swatches, weapon and armor variants, and decorative placeable items.
PvP is now entirely optional. All content, gameplay mechanics, and rewards can be obtained through pure PvE gameplay. Quality-of-life improvements have reduced frustrating progression loss that existed at launch, making the experience less punishing overall.
Combat has received significant overhauls. The parry window has been expanded, NPC animations improved, and enemy stamina rebalanced. Heavy attacks now match the damage output of slow blade attacks. Dashing now allows players to pass through enemies. Two new weapons have been added: Dual Blades and Pyrocket. The Rapier has been completely reworked into a parrying weapon.
The endgame Landsraad faction system has been rebuilt around a mission-driven framework that functions equally well for multiplayer PvE and single-player play. Players progress through twenty ranks from outsider to either Atreides Envoy or Harkonnen Enforcer, unlocking powerful rewards. A new Specializations progression system lets players invest points in crafting, gathering, exploration, combat, and sabotage, unlocking traits that boost various stats and unlock technologies like Augmentation.
Augmentations are powerful modifiers added to unique Tier 6 weapons and armor, found as schematics in the six new Imperial Testing Stations and crafted using Landsraad mission rewards. Late-game items now require fewer rare materials, bringing endgame content within reach of solo and single-player players. Augment crafting uses a bell curve system so favorable rolls occur more frequently.
The map has expanded significantly. Seven new mission locations, six Imperial Testing Stations, additional contracts, and dynamic encounters have been added to Arrakis. Character re-customization is now available in Arrakis and Harko Village, with new hairstyles, tattoos, and School of the Imperium-specific armor sets. Vehicles, containers, and placeables can now be renamed.
On Xbox, the game offers two graphics modes. Performance mode targets 60fps at dynamic 4K resolution, while Quality mode runs at 30fps with dynamic 4K. Xbox Series X renders at higher native resolution in both modes and includes enhanced visuals. The game supports Play Anywhere with shared progression, Cloud Gaming, and ROG Xbox Ally.
The launch coincides with the release of the Filmic Archive DLC, featuring cosmetics from the Dune films. Items include the Aegis of an Unwalked Path armor, Caladan Stormcoat, Harkonnen Cataphract and Atreides Hoplite armor sets, Longhaul Stillsuit, three Sardaukar armor sets, weapons, emotes, and a 73-piece Sardaukar building set with 17 decorative pieces.
Players who log in between September 17 and October 22 receive the Matron's Decor reward package. The Dune: Awakening Ultimate Edition is priced at $71.99 and includes four DLC packs: Wildlife of Arrakis, Lost Harvest, Raiders of the Broken Lands, and The Water Wars. It also includes the Sardaukar Bator Armor, exclusive swatch patterns, the Caladan Palace Building Set, a Dune 2021 film stillsuit, a 50-page digital artbook, and 90 minutes of soundtrack.
Funcom has announced the Polar Cap as a free update arriving later this year, introducing a new survival map and icy biome with new survival mechanics, resources, loot, craftables, and a standalone storyline. Full cross-play support is coming after the console launch, with additional details to be revealed. More Dune film tie-in cosmetics are planned alongside the third Dune film installment.
