Dressmaker hits 35,650 concurrent players with 98% Steam reviews
The indie dressmaking sim has become an unexpected hit, breaking player records and earning Overwhelmingly Positive reviews. Developer Ruan Rothmann says he may have peaked with the game.
Dressmaker, a cozy simulation game about creating bespoke gowns, has become one of Steam's surprise hits of the year. The game launched last week and quickly earned an Overwhelmingly Positive rating, climbing from 96% to 98% positive reviews.
The concurrent player count has surged beyond initial expectations. Ruan Rothmann, programmer and developer at publisher Free Lives, shared a screenshot showing 25,000 concurrent players. Since then, Dressmaker has broken that record, reaching 35,650 concurrent Steam players yesterday. With over 28,000 players actively playing during a working day, the game continues gaining momentum.
Rothmann, who previously worked on side-scrolling shooter Broforce and gladiator simulator Gorn, celebrated the success on Twitter. "I used to be worried that I peaked way too early in my career. Now it seems I may have peaked with a dressmaking game," he wrote. "Dressmaker is awesome and I couldn't be more proud."
The game's premise is straightforward: players choose fabrics, cut patterns, and design custom dresses with extensive creative freedom. A planned update will hide pins of other trims while one is selected, addressing feedback from players.
