Double Fine is reviving its Amnesia Fortnight. The 2026 iteration will be a live game jam that returns on August 31. Kickstarter backers can vote on four prototypes and decide which becomes a finished game. The Kickstarter campaign will run for most of September, and four prototypes will be made, with one eventually becoming a real game. Additionally, 2 Player Productions will produce a documentary that films the process. The team has put this concept into action several times over the past decade. In 2017, one of the games featured was the recently released Kiln.

Tim Schafer explained that Microsoft gave the studio a “financial runway” after their split, and this game jam is designed to extend it. “Being independent again, we can go back to doing a lot of things we were doing before,” he said. “We got a little bit of a runway on the departure to sign some games. We want to sign some game deals and get going. It’s kind of a scary time to be out there, but it’s a runway, not a freeway. It doesn’t go forever. It’s just a little patch where we can take off on our own power, and we want to extend it a little bit.”

Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story and report any updates as more information becomes available.
