Double Fine Announces Comedy Bus-Driving Simulator Thank You Bus Driver
Double Fine has revealed Thank You Bus Driver, a comedy simulation game where players step into the role of a reckless bus driver, marking the studio's first project since returning to independence.
Double Fine has announced its first title since leaving Xbox, a comedy simulation game titled Thank You Bus Driver. The game casts players as a reckless town bus driver tasked with reaching the next stop by any means necessary. According to the official Steam description, players are encouraged to drive fast, slap faster, and toss rulebreakers out of the bus to achieve victory. Gameplay features include checking maps mid-turn, taking shortcuts through corn fields, and treating obstacles like pedestrians, incoming traffic, and fences as completely optional.
The project follows Double Fine's transition back into independence as part of a wider Xbox restructuring announced by CEO Asha Sharma in July. The organizational changes affected approximately 3,200 roles across the division, spinning studios like Double Fine and Compulsion Games back out into independent operations while allowing them to retain ownership of their intellectual properties and back catalogues. During the transition, Double Fine laid off about a quarter of its 90-person team to reach a sustainable size.
Thank You Bus Driver is currently listed as coming soon on Steam and is available for pre-order on both Steam and GOG.
