Ahead of GTA 6, DMA Design Founder David Jones Set for Rare Public Appearance

Ahead of the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, DMA Design original founder David Jones is preparing to make a rare public appearance later this month. Jones will speak at the Scottish Game Developers Association's Games Day event, taking place on September 25, 2026, at the Water's Edge venue in Dundee—the former home of DMA Design.

As the founder of DMA Design, Jones played a crucial role in the creation of early studio titles such as Lemmings, Blood Money, and the original Grand Theft Auto, where he was credited as "Capo Di Tutte Cappa." He later served as executive producer on Grand Theft Auto 2 before leaving the studio during a period of corporate acquisitions involving Gremlin, Infogrames, and Take-Two. He subsequently established Rage Games (Scotland) in 2000, which later became Realtime Worlds, the developer behind games like Crackdown and APB: All-Points Bulletin. While Jones has stepped back from interviews about the franchise over recent years, he recently gave an interview with LBC News calling the continued success of GTA "humbling" and "exciting.">

At the upcoming SGDA Games Day event, Jones is scheduled to deliver the opening remarks and participate in a "GTA Origins panel." He will be joined on the panel by former DMA employees Colin Anderson, Mike Dailly, and Keith Hamilton, with Gary Penn hosting. Additional scheduled talks at the event include presentations by Revolution Software's Charles Cecil on "The birth of UK video games" and former Bethesda developer Jeff Gardiner on "Making single player RPGs in a multiplayer world." General admission tickets for the event are priced at £175, while SGDA members can claim two free tickets with additional tickets available for £49.
