Divinity: Original Sin hits 90% discount on Steam ahead of Larian's new Divinity reboot

Steam is discounting Divinity: Original Sin to $3.99, down from $39.99, marking the lowest price the 2015 RPG has ever reached. The Enhanced Edition Collector's Edition is discounted to $6.99 from $69.99.

According to SteamDB, these are historic lows for both versions. Since May, Larian Studios has regularly offered the $3.99 price during Steam sales and between events, typically for several days each month. The current discount ends September 21, but players can expect similar pricing to return soon based on this pattern.

The timing aligns with Larian's work on a new Divinity reboot, the first mainline entry since Divinity: Original Sin II in 2017. The studio is currently focused on its upcoming post-Baldur's Gate 3 project, which has no official release date but is unlikely to arrive before 2027 at the earliest.

In a recent statement, Larian CEO Swen Vincke described the game's current development stage as one where "there is a lot that is still rough or missing, but where you sense that a game is coming alive." Technical animation director Ricardo Ayasta added that the studio is prioritizing detail in character design across all elements of the game.

For players looking to catch up on Larian's work before the new title launches, both versions of Divinity: Original Sin are substantially discounted. The earlier installments in the series are lengthy enough that starting now could build a solid backlog before the reboot arrives.
