Disney has updated the subscriber agreements for Disney+ and Hulu to allow advertisements on all subscription tiers, including plans marketed as "ad-free" or "no ads." The terms of use change took effect June 18, 2026, with Disney notifying customers via email in recent days.

Under the updated terms, premium "no ads" tiers may now include limited promotional content. This includes brief clips promoting bundle upgrades, branded content, product integrations, and sponsorship messaging. Ads will appear before and after playback rather than during movies or series episodes.

The change gives Disney contractual flexibility to introduce advertisements more broadly in the future without renegotiating subscriber terms. This follows a previous subscriber agreement update on January 27, 2025, which clarified that specific titles and content types would include ads for all subscribers.

Disney is not alone in adjusting ad policies on premium tiers. HBO Max reserves the right to show content with sponsorships and product placements on its Standard and Premium plans, while Apple TV shows trailers for its own productions before movies and series begin.
