Blizzard Won't Fix Diablo 4 Season 15's Dominant Hellfire Torch Bug This Season

The Hellfire Torch charm is allowing players to equip far more Unique items than intended in Season 15, but Blizzard has decided to let the bug persist through the current season to avoid disrupting player builds.

Diablo 4 Season 15 has a major bug that Blizzard is choosing not to fix, at least for now. The Hellfire Torch, a new Unique charm introduced this season, is allowing players to equip multiple Unique charms simultaneously when the game normally restricts them to one.

The bug stems from an unintended interaction between Hellfire Torch and two seals. Players equip Hellfire Torch alongside the Seal of the Golden Epiphany, which permits up to three Unique charms. They then swap the Golden Epiphany for the Seal of the Diamond Mind, a seal that reduces charm requirements for set bonuses. Players retain the ability to use multiple Unique charms despite this swap, effectively granting access to a full five-piece set bonus, Hellfire Torch, and two additional Unique charms simultaneously. This creates power levels well beyond what the developers intended.

The exploit has also enabled players to circumvent the game's restriction on equipping multiple Mythic items, allowing them to deck out in full Mythic gear. Diablo 4 design director Dan Tanguay acknowledged the issue in an official forum post, stating that Hellfire Torch's current behavior is "beyond what was originally intended."

Despite recognizing the problem, Blizzard will not address it during Season 15. "We know many players have spent significant time earning the Hellfire Torch and building characters around it," Tanguay said. "Because of that, we want to be thoughtful about making adjustments mid-season that could disrupt those investments." The team cited the positive reception of Hellfire Torch itself as another factor in the decision, noting that the item has created excitement among players who earned it and incorporated it into their builds.

Blizzard intends to investigate the underlying issue and implement a proper fix in a future season. "We'd like additional time to investigate the underlying issue and ensure that any future changes are implemented correctly and behave as intended," Tanguay stated. The decision reflects a rare approach from Blizzard, which typically addresses major balance problems quickly rather than allowing them to persist.

Season 15, titled Hell's Legacy, has been unusually ambitious for Diablo 4, featuring boss encounters against Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto pulled directly from earlier games in the franchise. The season also includes numerous secrets, including a battle with the cow god Moophisto and the return of Whimsyshire, the secret pony level from Diablo 3.
