Developer DK Liao Releases Free Vector Graphics Library Mold for Unity and Godot

Developer DK Liao has shared a free pre-release version of Mold, a minimalist real-time vector graphics library designed for Unity and Godot.

Developer DK Liao has released a free work-in-progress real-time vector graphics library titled Mold, built for use in the Unity and Godot engines. The collection stems from the artist's personal experience developing games utilizing simple two-dimensional and three-dimensional geometry. Players and developers can see the library items in action through Liao's miniature recreation of the twenty-two minute Outer Wilds universe loop, which was built entirely with Mold in the Godot engine using approximately 3000 lines of GDScript and no external assets.

The pre-release collection is currently available free of charge on itch.io for both commercial and non-commercial projects. According to the developer, the library will eventually transition into a paid product once development officially concludes. Anyone who acquires a licensed pre-release version before that transition will retain free usage rights without any issues. The download package also includes a PDF featuring comprehensive design explanations.

Technically, the library items utilize advanced shader work. This includes packaged data sent through a color texture for extraction via a Godot shader, alongside MultiMesh technology for efficient rendering and automatic level of detail systems. DK Liao has previously developed several titles featuring a similar vibrant minimalist visual style, including Autopanic, Ultra Void, Net Dive, and Autopanic Zero.
