Developer Creates VR Tool to Start 3D Printing by Throwing Models
A software developer at Epic created a virtual reality setup that lets users physically hurl a 3D model toward a printer to begin fabrication.

Software developer Hank Berger shared a demonstration of a new virtual reality experiment. Using a Meta Quest 3 headset, Berger picked up a 3D model from his software and physically threw it toward his 3D printer. The action successfully triggered the printer to begin fabrication.
Berger utilized the local API for his Bambu Lab printer to control the hardware. Because this connection temporarily disables the official mobile app, the developer created a quick webserver on his personal computer. He then used GPT-6 Astra to connect his Meta Quest 3 headset, the mobile application, and the printer so they could communicate.
The project is not currently available on GitHub. Berger stated that he might consider sharing the tool if there is enough public interest, noting that the software still requires additional polish before it is ready for general distribution.
Alongside this printing experiment, Berger has shared several other AI-assisted projects in recent weeks. These include unofficial virtual reality ports of Luigi's Mansion and Super Smash Bros Melee. Berger noted that his Luigi's Mansion project used Astra to help install an emulator and modify the ROM for virtual reality, while cautioning that code decompilation is intensive and consumes significant subscription usage.
