Deadlock hits 228K concurrent players on Steam after massive City Never Sleeps update
Valve's MOBA reached its highest player count yet following a major update that added six heroes, overhauled the map, and doubled character voice lines, despite the game still being in limited access.

Valve's Deadlock, a MOBA blending elements of Dota and Overwatch, reached 228,086 concurrent players on Steam yesterday after the release of the City Never Sleeps update, marking its highest player count to date.
The update brought substantial changes to the game, which remains unreleased and accessible only through invite codes. Valve added six new heroes, revamped the New York-inspired map called The Cursed Apple, and more than doubled the character interaction voice lines.
The map redesign divided the game's three lanes into themed districts. The central blue lane is now Broadway, the green lane is Greenwich, and the yellow lane is York. Smaller districts between the lanes include the Theatre, Chinatown, the Haunted Lot, and the Plaza. Each area features unique Haunts, the game's PvE enemies, matching the new aesthetic.
Players have focused heavily on the expanded voice lines, with the Deadlock Reddit community sharing clips highlighting the increased personality among the game's cast. The HUD and quality-of-life improvements rounded out the patch.
Deadlock still has no official release date. Players interested in accessing the game need an invite code from someone who already has access.
