The Blood of Dawnwalker's first major patch arrives in early October with a new, gentler Story mode designed for players prioritizing narrative over combat challenge. The mode effectively replaces the current Story difficulty while the existing setting gets renamed, though developer Rebel Wolves has not yet settled on its new name.

Game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz told Eurogamer the update represents a substantial content addition. Beyond the difficulty option, the patch addresses longstanding combat friction points. The studio is fixing an issue where lock-on targets switch after stun-style crowd-control hits, requiring three hits to break stun rather than one. Escape movement will also ignore the navigation mesh to feel less clunky, and animals in wolf form or witch-sprint mode will no longer automatically catch evading players.

Rebel Wolves continues optimisation work following incremental hotfixes for performance issues since launch. Enemy difficulty tuning remains unchanged because it depends heavily on player builds and gear. The studio is exploring a New Game Plus mode and considering new enemy types, though neither has been confirmed for this patch.

The Blood of Dawnwalker launched in early September and has reportedly reached one million sales.
