Dave Bautista Shares Training Progress and Filming Window for Amazon's God of War Series
Dave Bautista has provided an update on his physical preparation to play Kratos in Amazon's upcoming God of War series, while also pointing to when production is expected to resume filming.
Actor Dave Bautista has taken to Instagram to share his physical preparation for the role of Kratos in Amazon's upcoming live-action God of War television series. Bautista posted a video of his workout routine accompanied by the caption stating he is in his third week of hardcore weight training, with two more months needed to reach his target physique. Although the actor recently lost weight following his work on Knock at the Cabin, he is pivoting his training regimen to portray the iconic video game protagonist.
Bautista steps into the lead role as a replacement for original cast member Ryan Hurst, who sustained a serious on-set injury. Because of the extensive healing time required for Hurst's injury, production was postponed and the role was ultimately recast with Bautista. Alongside this casting change, Bautista's recent social media update suggests that filming is expected to pick up closer to November, shifting from initial reports that pointed toward a mid-October resumption.
Based on the PlayStation video game franchise, the Amazon adaptation is being developed under showrunner, executive producer, and writer Ronald D. Moore. The narrative follows Kratos and his son Atreus journeying to the highest peak in the nine realms to scatter the ashes of Faye. The ensemble cast features Callum Vinson as Atreus, alongside Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Teresa Palmer, and Ed Skrein. Additionally, video game actor Christopher Judge shared that he read for the live-action version of the character, though he noted he had no desire to headline another television series.
Amazon has not yet announced an official premiere date for the God of War series. Executive producers on the project include Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Sad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hurst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon.
