Dark Souls 2 seamless co-op mod launches in alpha with support for up to five players

A seamless co-op mod for Dark Souls 2 is now available in alpha form, created by modder Yui who previously developed similar mods for Elden Ring and the original Dark Souls. The mod has taken over a year to develop and represents one of the creator's most ambitious projects.

The mod allows up to five players to journey through Dark Souls 2 together from start to finish. According to Yui's description on Nexus Mods, "Simply put, the mod allows you to play with friends throughout the entirety of the game with no restrictions. With this, it's theoretically possible to play the game from the tutorial up to the final boss completely in one co-op session."

Game progression and NPC dialogue are synchronized across all players, creating a shared world experience. The usual barriers separating co-op zones have been removed. When a player dies, they respawn at their last bonfire while others continue the battle.

The mod includes quality of life features such as a streamlined connection system for joining sessions and optional difficulty scaling adjustments. Yui acknowledged that playing cooperatively makes the game easier but emphasized the mod was "designed with fun in mind as opposed to reducing the challenge."

Since the mod is in alpha, bugs are expected. Players can report issues to help refine the release. To use it, you'll need Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin updated to version 1.03. The mod is available on Nexus Mods and Github, and includes in-game items to organize online sessions.
