Two months after Cyan Worlds posted a three-minute glimpse of its cancelled Myst project, the loss continues to sting for players who saw potential in what might have been.

The trailer featured actor Noshir Dalal performing an antagonist described as an angry, Lex Luthor-style megalomaniac character in pursuit of a book. For one observer, it represented a rare archetype in modern gaming: a relentlessly ambitious villain with theatrical presence and depth.

The cancellation highlights a recurring pattern in the industry. Venture capital funding structures have increasingly shaped which games reach completion and which remain unrealised visions. The Myst project joins a growing list of ambitious titles that never materialised despite significant development investment and creative vision.

Cyan Worlds, known for the Myst franchise and its legacy of innovative puzzle design, has not provided detailed public explanation for the project's cancellation. The three-minute teaser remains the only substantial glimpse players will see of what the studio had in development.
