Cronos: Lazarus DLC Preview Highlights Aggressive Gameplay and New Combat Tools

A behind-closed-doors preview of Cronos: Lazarus showcases new tools like a teleport mechanic and Warden clones, offering a more aggressive approach to survival horror.

Bloober Team is expanding its new survival horror IP with Cronos: Lazarus, a fully fledged downloadable content extension for Cronos: The New Dawn. According to a behind-closed-doors preview by Insider Gaming, players take on the role of the Warden instead of the Traveler from the base game. This perspective shift introduces a character that the preview describes as more engaging, while shifting the overall experience to demand a more aggressive style of gameplay.

The expansion introduces fresh combat tools designed to give players new tactical options when dealing with enemies and merging monsters in classic arenas. Among these additions is a new teleport mechanic, which serves as an evasive maneuver to escape enemy clutches and reposition behind opponents. Additionally, players can deploy a Warden clone to distract enemies, though the feature comes with a lengthy cooldown to prevent overuse. Reviewers noted that these additions could easily have been saved as sequel-selling tweaks for a future title.

While Lazarus is positioned as a direct continuation rather than a fundamentally fresh experience—revisiting some locations from the main game early on—it retains the atmospheric strengths of its predecessor. The sound design continues to build tension through spatial audio, planetary sandstorms, and environmental noises. Furthermore, the DLC introduces a new adversary that will pursue the player throughout the journey, adding a fresh layer of terror to the familiar survival horror formula.
