Critical Role Campaign 4 Reaches Breaking Point as Cast Faces Cascading Disasters
The Scheming Table storyline hits a crescendo with multiple character crises, terrible dice rolls, and unpredictable consequences about to unfold.

Critical Role's fourth campaign continues with the Scheming Table, a faction within the West Marches-style adventure where the 13-person cast splits into separate groups. The latest episode saw four and a half hours of political intrigue and mounting catastrophe for nearly every character involved.
Halandil Fang (Liam O'Brien) faces family ruin after his daughter was expelled from school in the prior episode. When the campaign's pope equivalent personally threatened his life, O'Brien rolled a natural one attempting to calm his now-revolutionary daughter. Azure Nayar (Luis Carazo) navigates conflicting loyalties between two sorcerous houses while the head of one believes he's in a romantic relationship with his cousin, a misunderstanding stemming from possession of her axe. Murray Magnesson (Marisha Ray) works at a school shifting from magical education toward military indoctrination for a sorcerous faction, putting her employment in jeopardy.
Tyranny (Whitney Moore), a demon character, received orders from her father to destroy her physical form and return to hell. She's also taken severe damage in combat with her reformed sister, who now works as a bodyguard for the church.
Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel) faces the most immediate threat. After embarrassing his controlling grandmother, the pope figure, he's been taken to Halandil's theatre where assassination appears likely as part of a staged killing designed to spark civil war between the church and the orcish population of Dol-Makjar.
Throughout the episode, the entire cast experienced extraordinarily poor dice rolls, compounding the narrative tension. With multiple plotlines accelerating simultaneously, the article's author noted complete uncertainty about upcoming outcomes. Potential developments include assassination attempts, possible intervention from the Kaedra (orcish paint angels created during the campaign's opening), involvement from a nearby fey glade and its dragon resident, and the possibility that the staged assassination plot contains hidden layers of deception.
