Crimson Desert Expansion 'Charting The Unknown' Introduces New Underwater Exploration and Base Building Systems

The upcoming Crimson Desert expansion, Charting The Unknown, brings new gameplay systems including underwater exploration, a ship, and base building to the action RPG.

The action RPG Crimson Desert is set to receive an expansion titled Charting The Unknown. Rather than merely adding a new region and storyline, the expansion aims to transform how the game is played by introducing fresh mechanics that interact with the existing open-world framework of Pywel.

Among the major additions is an expanded focus on underwater exploration. While the base game allowed players to sprint across water surfaces, the expansion introduces diving equipment, a ship, and new abilities that let players navigate beneath the waves. This update opens up new areas, secrets, and lore hidden beneath the sea.

In addition to maritime traversal, Charting The Unknown brings a narrative framing for the trio of protagonists, including Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka, and their respective factions. A new base building system is also being introduced, expanding the scope of the Greymane camp into a more personal and granular experience where companions can work for the welfare of the land and the group.

These features build upon the title's existing systemic interactions, such as how mining ores connects to gear upgrades and the economy. As the expansion arrives following the base game, it introduces new possibilities for traversal, exploration, and faction leadership within Pywel.
