Game Informer Previews Control Resonant at Gamescom 2026
Game Informer shares new hands-off gameplay details for Control Resonant from Gamescom 2026, highlighting combat mechanics, boss design, and a September digital release date.
Gamescom 2026 has officially arrived, bringing back-to-back editorial appointments and fresh insights into some of the industry's most anticipated titles. Among the highlights featured in Game Informer's ongoing roundup is Remedy Entertainment's upcoming action title, Control Resonant. While the recent preview session was strictly hands-off, it offered a deeper look into a brand-new section of the game, shedding light on its departure into melee action combat and role-playing elements.
Set outside the Federal Bureau of Control's containment, the story follows Dylan Faden—brother of original protagonist Jesse—as he navigates a twisted, mold-infested Manhattan park area. During the presentation, Remedy showcased traversal mechanics such as gravity-shifting to scale vertical walls and locate targeted 'Resonants,' which serve as the game's major boss encounters. According to the developers, while intermediate bosses can be tackled in any non-linear order, the first and final boss encounters remain consistent across playthroughs. The gameplay demonstration also detailed combat systems, noting the absence of traditional blocking or parrying mechanics in favor of an aggressive dodge-centric playstyle where players must defeat enemies to harvest blue health-restoring orbs.
Combat flexibility is further expanded through transforming weapons like the Aberrant drill, shoulder-button abilities including Ignite and Barrage, and a Falter stagger meter that enables executions once filled. Dialogue choices during the preview demonstrated that interactions will shape NPC perceptions rather than alter the singular main story ending. Following the convention showcase, Control Resonant is scheduled for a digital launch across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 24, followed by a physical release in October and a Mac version arriving at a later date.
