Capcom Focuses on Reactivating Inactive Franchises and Older IPs

Following the major sales success of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Capcom has announced plans to focus on reactivating intellectual properties that have not seen recent game launches.

Capcom has announced that it is shifting focus toward reactivating intellectual properties that have not experienced a new title launch in recent times. The announcement followed the sales milestone of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a fantasy action-adventure game set in Edo-era Kyoto featuring sword-based battles, which surpassed 1 million copies sold on its first day of release.

While Capcom has not yet confirmed which specific title will be revived first, the publisher named several major franchises during a May 2026 investor meeting that are being considered for future sequels, remakes, or ports. The franchises mentioned during the meeting include Devil May Cry, Mega Man, Ace Attorney, and Dead Rising. Additionally, Okami and Dragon's Dogma were brought up, though projects for those particular properties were already in motion prior to the recent announcement.

Despite strong fan demand, Capcom has not addressed potential plans for Dino Crisis. The company currently does not appear to have plans to develop a new entry for that franchise, even with the release of a remastered bundle on Steam. Capcom has yet to announce official launch windows or specific project details for the other inactive IPs under consideration.
