The Blood of Dawnwalker's Most Popular Mod Removes Its Core Time Mechanic
The Better Story Timer mod has been downloaded over 115,000 times since launch, allowing players to triple the game's 30-day limit and remove time costs entirely—effectively eliminating the mechanic Rebel Wolves designed as the game's defining feature.

The Blood of Dawnwalker's time management system has proven divisive among players. The open-world RPG requires players to complete quests within a 30 in-game day, 30 night limit, with each quest completion pushing time forward. This core mechanic forces difficult choices: completing one objective may prevent access to others before the deadline expires. Developer Rebel Wolves intentionally built the game around this constraint as a defining design choice.
Despite—or perhaps because of—this innovative approach, the game's most popular mod on Nexus Mods removes the mechanic entirely. The Better Story Timer, created by modder Caites, has been downloaded over 115,000 times since the game's launch last week. The mod increases the default 30-day story limit to 90 in-game days by default, tripling available time. Players can adjust this further by editing configuration files. The mod also increases clock segments, allowing more actions per in-game day, and removes time costs associated with learning active and passive skills.
According to the mod's description, it "allows you to have as many days as you want for the story." The mod remains compatible with the latest game patches and functions in the time-limited prologue, though its creator recommends disabling it for the epilogue. Some players have reportedly already completed the full game using the mod.
The adoption of Better Story Timer highlights a fundamental divide in player preferences. Some players want freedom to explore and complete all content without time pressure, viewing the mechanic as restrictive in an open-world context. Others argue the time limit is the game's core innovation and that removing it negates Rebel Wolves' core design vision. On Reddit, player Think_Algae_1739 noted: "The time mechanic has been touted by Rebel Wolves since this game was announced. It is literally the core mechanic of this game."
Rebel Wolves' debut title has performed strongly commercially, selling over one million copies in its first three days and maintaining healthy Steam player counts. Despite the controversy around its time mechanic, the game received positive critical reception, with reviewers praising its willingness to innovate within the open-world RPG genre, even as some elements remained uneven.
