Blizzard has confirmed that computational add-ons will be restricted in the upcoming World of Warcraft: Forever. The throwback MMO was unveiled at BlizzCon 2026. Following Blizzard's previous decision to remove combat mods from the retail release to level the playing field, community discussions questioned whether the new version would follow a similar path.

World of Warcraft: Classic designer Tim Jones and lead encounter designer Mike Nuthals confirmed in an interview with Kotaku that programmatic and computational add-ons will not be accessible. Nuthals and Jones stated that the in-game and in-combat add-on disarmament, which stops calculations used to automate marking or communicating for players, will be brought over to the new title.

Unlike the retail version where features were removed after the fact, World of Warcraft: Forever is launching with these restrictions in place. Players have noted online that the content may not require the same level of outside help, lessening the backlash compared to the retail changes. World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled to release in November.
