During its annual BlizzCon fan event over the weekend, veteran studio Blizzard announced two new titles. Diablo 5 is scheduled for release in 2029, while a new StarCraft game is slated for 2030. Because of these distant release windows, the projects are targeting the next generation of consoles from Sony and Microsoft.

Native versions for Xbox Helix are expected because Microsoft now owns Blizzard. However, Blizzard has not confirmed any target platforms, leaving potential PlayStation 6 editions unconfirmed. The studio released a teaser trailer for Diablo 5 pitching it as a traditional Diablo experience.

The new StarCraft game shifts away from the real time strategy genre to become an open world shooter. Accompanying the StarCraft trailer, a blurb stated: THE SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF THE DOMINION ANSWERED THE CALL WHEN MANKIND NEEDED THEM MOST. THEIR COURAGE HELD THE LINE. THEIR SACRIFICE BOUGHT US ANOTHER DAY. NOW THE CALL COMES TO YOU. CARRY THEIR STRENGTH FORWARD. NO MATTER THE COST.

Past Diablo games have launched on PlayStation or arrived later following a PC debut, giving Diablo 5 a strong possibility of appearing on Sony systems. Meanwhile, the StarCraft franchise has never appeared on any PlayStation console. Platform availability will remain uncertain until Blizzard officially confirms target systems in future years.
