Kohachi Studios Reaffirms Commitment to Black Finger Jet, Cites Quality Over Speed

The Metal Slug spiritual successor remains in active development, with the studio's CEO stating the team will not release a compromised version. Funding depends partly on the success of Navinosuke: The Yo-Kai Buster, recently delayed to 2027.

Kohachi Studios has provided a rare update on Black Finger Jet, the long-awaited run-and-gun game developed by Irem and SNK veterans. In a Twitter response this weekend, CEO Shinano Ishiguro addressed concerns from fans about the project's status after years of silence.

Ishiguro emphasized the studio's commitment to the game's vision. "We have an extremely strong commitment to what Black Finger JET should be," he wrote. "We feel that releasing a compromised or half-finished version would be worse than not releasing it at all."

The team continues refining the game behind closed doors and is actively seeking additional development funding to complete the project. Ishiguro acknowledged the long wait since the game's announcement in 2023, apologizing for the extended silence while reaffirming the studio's intention to finish it.

The studio's financial position is closely tied to its other project, Navinosuke: The Yo-Kai Buster. Ishiguro noted that Navinosuke's success "will also help us secure the additional development funding needed for Black Finger JET," describing it as crucial to Black Finger Jet's future. However, Navinosuke was recently delayed until 2027, suggesting Black Finger Jet's completion remains distant.

Ishiguro's full statement confirmed the studio's philosophy: "This commitment to quality is an essential part of our studio's philosophy. We know that asking everyone to wait even longer is not easy, but we will continue refining the game until we are genuinely satisfied with the result."

The update confirms the project has not been abandoned, though its completion timeline remains uncertain.
