Beyond Good & Evil 2 Still in Active Development, Ubisoft Writer Confirms

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in active development, according to Rik Godwin, lead writer and associate narrative director at Ubisoft Bordeaux. Godwin revealed on BlueSky that he has been serving as a support and consultant on the project over the past few months.

Godwin, who also works on Assassin's Creed Shadows and Ghost Recon, confirmed he checked with Ubisoft before sharing the information publicly. The confirmation comes after years of silence on one of Ubisoft's longest games in development.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 was first announced in 2008 and reintroduced at E3 2017. Since then, players have seen little beyond a cinematic trailer and gameplay footage from 2018. The game is described as an action-adventure RPG playable solo or in co-op mode, set across planets and space environments at various scales.

The prequel will feature combat ranging from close-quarters encounters in hidden temples to exploration at the uncharted edges of a star system. Ubisoft has been developing the title in collaboration with its community through the Space Monkey Program.

The confirmation arrives following a period of uncertainty for the project. In 2024, Ubisoft announced a major restructuring that led to the cancellation of several games, including the Prince of Persia remake. However, the team behind Beyond Good & Evil 2 remained intact through those changes, and the game's director later reaffirmed its development status.
