Battlestate Games has announced a new publishing division focused on bringing experimental games to market that traditional publishers consider too risky. The studio, known for developing Escape from Tarkov, revealed the initiative at the FPS Games Show hosted by BULKHEAD.

Nikita Buyanov, head of Battlestate Games, explained the reasoning behind the move. "I just want to see and test those games; the risky games. They can change everything. They can have something special that can change the whole industry," Buyanov told PCGamesN. "It might sound risky, look risky, and it's just something different. It's what we need right now."

Buyanov stressed that the publishing venture is not primarily motivated by financial returns. Instead, it aims to provide struggling developers with shelter and resources needed to bring unconventional projects to market. "With all the games releasing right now, it's more or less all the same," he said. "Some risky ideas with risky implementation—some prototypes even—are going to have something in there. This is our approach: really risky, interesting ideas above potential profits."

The announcement follows Buyanov's involvement in establishing Rant Games, a separate studio working on Fragmentary Order, a hardcore sci-fi shooter currently in development. Buyanov has spent recent years juggling leadership duties at Battlestate while supporting external projects, signaling a growing interest in fostering diverse game development.

Escape from Tarkov itself exemplifies the kind of uncompromising design philosophy that Battlestate is now supporting through its publishing arm. The extraction shooter has built a dedicated following despite its punishing difficulty and deliberately unwelcoming approach to casual players. Rather than holding players' hands, the game embraces complexity and consequence, yet has flourished commercially over the years.

By creating a dedicated publishing label, Battlestate Games aims to replicate that success with other experimental titles currently unable to secure backing from mainstream publishers. The initiative reflects growing frustration within the industry about formulaic game design and the industry's risk aversion toward innovative projects.
