Battlefield Redsec Gets Proximity Chat, Cash Cups, and Rapid Royale

Battlefield Studios is rolling out a major series of updates for Battlefield Redsec, EA's battle royale title for Battlefield 6. The upcoming content drop expands the game's competitive ecosystem and introduces long-awaited social features, highlighted by the arrival of proximity chat on September 15.

Initially available in Battle Royale, the first iteration of proximity chat allows players to communicate via audio with nearby users, regardless of whether they are friendly or hostile. Battlefield Studios plans to gather community feedback regarding audio range, clarity, moderation tools, and overall gameplay impact before expanding the feature further.

Alongside communication updates, Season 5 introduces a brand-new variant called Rapid Royale. Built on the core foundation of Redsec Battle Royale, Rapid Royale is designed for faster matches, smaller play spaces, faster-moving circles, and reduced player counts to encourage more frequent engagements and less time searching for fights.

The competitive ecosystem is also returning in full force, kicking off with Battlefield Redsec Cash Cups from September 19 through October 10. Across the APAC, EMEA, and Americas regions, squads will compete for a share of $150,000 in total prize money. These weekly tournaments serve as a stepping stone toward the Open Series, which runs from October 24 through November 21. The Open Series acts as a proving ground for squads aiming to break into the Elite Series.

The Elite Series itself returns in Season 5, running from December 4, 2026, through January 16, 2027. It features a $1,338,000 global prize pool, with $446,000 awarded in each of the three regions. Together, these updates aim to breathe new life into the title's competitive landscape and provide varied experiences for players.
