Stardock Entertainment has launched a free playtest for the upcoming real-time strategy sequel, Ashes of the Singularity 2. Strategy fans can access the playtest on Steam by requesting access, which is granted immediately. The playtest runs until September 14th and provides an early look at the massive-scale sequel.

During the playtest, players can command either the United Earth Forces or the Post-Human Coalition. Participants can engage in head-to-head battles against other commanders or join forces in cooperative team matches across a selection of multiplayer maps. The full version of the game is slated to feature both a single-player campaign and multiplayer modes, though Stardock Entertainment has not yet announced an official release date for the final product.

Ashes of the Singularity 2 builds on the foundation of its predecessor by letting players control massive armies across giant battlefields the size of continents. Players can zoom out to view the entire battlefield or zoom in close to manage specific actions. The game features dynamic environments where buildings break, terrain shifts, and areas interact with a special material called Turinium.

In the final release, players will be able to choose from three distinct factions. These include the United Earth Forces, the high-tech Post-Human Coalition, and the AI Substrate. The upcoming campaign follows the United Earth Forces as they fight to survive and rebuild against enemies like the Post-Humans and the AI Substrate. For now, players can experience a taste of the action through the current Steam playtest.
