Area 35 is positioning Tiny Metal 2 as a showcase for its expanded production capabilities, according to founder and CEO Hiroaki Yura. Speaking at Tokyo Game Show 2026, Yura explained that the tactical simulation sequel will demonstrate the studio's growth into a company of over 300 employees, built on work spanning triple-A game co-development and prominent anime series including Demon Slayer and Dragon Ball.

"So, we've got all these resources and we want to put it into the game," Yura said. "We love our game, and our IP is what we really want to do, so that's what happened."

Tiny Metal 2 marks nearly a decade since the original 2017 game. The sequel will feature numerous references to story elements and characters from the first title, though Yura clarified that new players need not be familiar with the predecessor to understand Tiny Metal 2.

Area 35 announced an official anime adaptation titled Tiny Metal: Zero Line in July 2026. The studio recruited Michael Chu, formerly the lead writer for Overwatch at Activision Blizzard, to write the series plot. Yura described Chu as someone who spends significant time in Japan and has connections there, making him well-suited for the role.

Yura indicated the anime serves as a marketing vehicle to introduce the game and its world to new audiences. "It's very hard for us to get the word out," he said. "Every time we lifted a finger 10 years ago, everything became news but now, we put out a press release, and nobody really cares. So, that's why we're doing the anime."

Tiny Metal 2 will include a couch co-op mode, which Yura highlighted as one of the biggest gameplay updates. He emphasized the value of physical co-location: "I do think the physical aspect of being in the same room together, being able to talk and do communication other than just words, is really important. That's why we put in couch co-op."

Yura also teased potential crossplay features for a console release, though he noted this remains theoretical pending an official console announcement. The game is currently slated for Steam in spring 2027 and will use Epic Online Services to enable cross-platform connectivity.
