American Truck Simulator Update 1.61 Released on PC With Proximity Exploration
SCS Software has officially launched Update 1.61 for American Truck Simulator on PC, introducing a new Proximity Exploration feature, interior material enhancements, and fresh cargo options.
Developer SCS Software has officially released American Truck Simulator Update 1.61 for PC via Steam, following a prior open beta phase. The latest patch introduces several additions and improvements designed to expand hauling options and make map discovery more intuitive for players.
A primary addition in Update 1.61 is Proximity Exploration. This feature automatically reveals a small area around the player truck while traveling. It helps uncover nearby roads and areas around rest stops, gas stations, toll gates, and border crossings where multiple road segments sit close together. Secret roads will still require players to drive most of their routes for full discovery.
The update also brings an Improved Material System to selected truck interiors, beginning with the International LoneStar and International LT. This system uses dynamic cubemap variants to improve lighting and reflections on materials such as metal, plastic, fabric, and leather. Additional trucks will receive these visual enhancements in future patches.
Furthermore, Update 1.61 lays the groundwork for the upcoming Road Trip project by adding inactive Tourist Boards and new gas stations across various states including California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and the upcoming South Dakota downloadable content. Hauling options expand with new Seed Containers, Trailers, and Truss cargo, while existing Rails cargo receives a brand new model and updated textures. Features such as the Multi-Function Display and In-Game Menu tested during the experimental beta phase remain in development for a future release.
