Amazon Luna Introduces Remote Play Feature and New Games in September Update

Amazon Luna has introduced its most ambitious feature yet as part of its September update. The cloud gaming service, which is available to Amazon Prime subscribers without the need for a console or PC, now includes a Remote Play function that lets people play games together from different locations. Previously, multiplayer features on the service required participants to be in the same room. With Remote Play, Amazon Prime and Luna Premium subscribers can invite up to seven additional players into their sessions. These invited participants do not need an Amazon Prime subscription of their own, though they must access the session through the Luna website or TV app.

To promote the new feature, Amazon released two multiplayer-focused games alongside the update. These include a digital version of the board game King of Tokyo and a competitive trivia title titled It's Quiz Time: Guinness World Records. Additional multiplayer titles, including Bowling Mayhem and Cranium Planet, are scheduled to join the catalog later in September. Furthermore, single-player titles Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora were added to the Luna Standard game lineup.

The feature rollout arrives during a difficult period for the broader cloud gaming market. Xbox recently confirmed plans to limit Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to 15 hours of cloud gaming per month, requiring extra payments for additional time. With Amazon Luna included alongside Prime benefits and bolstered by the new Remote Play addition, the service offers an alternative option for cloud gaming enthusiasts.
