Alan Ritchson to Replace Jason Momoa as Lead in Sony's Helldivers Movie
Reacher star Alan Ritchson will take over the lead role in Sony's Helldivers film after Jason Momoa's departure. The movie remains on track for a November 2027 release with director Justin Lin attached.

Sony's Helldivers movie has found its lead. According to Deadline, Reacher star Alan Ritchson will replace Jason Momoa following Momoa's exit from the project earlier this year.
Ritchson will play one of the helldivers, with additional cast members to be announced later. Director Justin Lin, who has helmed films in the Fast & Furious and Star Trek franchises, remains attached to the project. The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on November 10, 2027.
Ritchson has expressed interest in video game adaptations beyond Helldivers. He has stated he is a fan of Activision's Call of Duty franchise and would be open to a role in its upcoming film.
Momoa, meanwhile, has not left the video game movie space entirely. He is set to appear as Blanka in October's Street Fighter movie and will return for a Minecraft Movie sequel in 2027.
Helldivers 2, released in 2024, became a major commercial success, reportedly selling over 20 million copies. Arrowhead Studios, the game's developer, has stated it should not have final say over how the movie adaptation unfolds. Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani previously remarked he hopes the film kills off celebrities.
