Age Twisters, developed by Barcelona-based Piccolo Studios, is a co-op adventure that invites two players to step into the roles of a grandfather and granddaughter who receive a mysterious message and a pair of bracelets that enable age manipulation.

The game's core mechanic allows both characters to shift between four life stages—child, teenager, adult, and elder—each providing unique abilities to solve puzzles. In the factory-themed demo section, protagonists in child form can swap places with chickens to progress, demonstrating how the age-shifting system creates accessible yet engaging challenges. The developers intentionally designed puzzles to remain breezy and solvable through brief brainstorming, ensuring the game remains approachable.

Each age stage carries practical consequences. Elder characters cannot traverse certain obstacles due to failing joints, though they can dodge with longer recovery animations. Conversations between characters shift dynamically based on their current age: young children crack jokes, while adults offer confident wisdom. Players can even change ages mid-conversation to alter sentence-by-sentence responses.

Rather than traditional death mechanics, Age Twisters uses age manipulation as a failure state. Projectiles and hazards age characters up or down drastically. Becoming younger than a child turns a player into an immobile baby requiring revival by their co-op partner, while aging beyond elderly transforms them into a skeleton—both reversible through partner assistance.

The game combines this mechanic with slapstick humor reminiscent of animated children's films. Enemies are portrayed as goofy characters who fumble and get chased by chickens, contributing to the lighthearted tone. Visually, the game features vibrant greens and blues that match its upbeat atmosphere.

Piccolo Studios co-founder Jordi Ministral explained the studio's intention to bridge generational divides through gameplay rather than direct messaging. After creating darker-toned adventures with Arise: A Simple Story and After Us, the team sought a more cheerful project. Ministral noted that Age Twisters addresses stereotypes—from dismissive views of older generations to perceptions of younger ones—by bringing both groups together through shared play. Given economic pressures causing young adults to live with parents longer, the game offers families an opportunity for connection.
