Actor From Cancelled Marvel Show Shares Secret Look at MCU's Squirrel Girl

Derek Theler, an actor attached to the cancelled Marvel television project New Warriors, has revealed a collection of behind-the-scenes images and clips from production. Theler, who was cast to play Mr. Immortal in the pilot, shared details and media on Instagram as a tribute to the series that never aired.

New Warriors centered on an unlikely C-list team consisting of Squirrel Girl, Night Thrasher, Speedball, Microbe, and Debrii protecting Cleveland, Ohio. Theler described the concept as a group of young adults with superpowers trying to become heroes while followed by a documentary crew, comparing the style to The Office. According to Theler, although a pilot was filmed and well-received, the project ultimately vanished into Hollywood limbo without a dramatic cancellation or a real explanation.

Despite being forbidden from taking photos or videos on set, Theler captured secret behind-the-scenes footage to document his introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, believing it to be the only footage from the shoot outside of what Marvel has locked away. The shared media includes a look at Milana Vayntrub in costume as Squirrel Girl. Vayntrub later went on to voice the character in Marvel Rivals.

The New Warriors project has shown no signs of life since its cancellation. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios has pared back on its television output, with projects like Daredevil: Born Again season 3 and VisionQuest among its upcoming slate for Disney Plus.
