Activision has reversed its earlier announcement that weapon camos from previous Call of Duty games would carry forward into Warzone with the Modern Warfare 4 integration. The publisher initially said legacy weapon camos would be available in MW4 Warzone, but has now corrected that information and confirmed that the camos will not carry forward.

The reversal comes as Infinity Ward continues to refine Modern Warfare 4 ahead of its October 23 launch. The studio has made several other adjustments based on feedback from beta testing, including changes to weapon balance and gameplay systems.

Infinity Ward confirmed it is buffing SMGs to address time-to-kill values on outlier weapons after two beta weekends. The developers found that the Sub-Machine Gun class was notably lagging behind other weapon types, so a series of updates will be implemented to ensure all weapons remain viable at launch.

In addition to weapon tuning, the studio has made adjustments to perks and spawning algorithms following multiple rounds of beta testing. Infinity Ward discussed these changes in the first episode of The Ward Room, a developer video series detailing the road to launch.

Activision also announced a quality-of-life improvement for Double XP tokens in MW4. Beginning with the new game, 2XP tokens will only count down when you are actively in a match. Previously, the timer would tick down while in menus or searching for a match, which meant players could lose bonus time while away from active gameplay.

Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC. The game marks the first Call of Duty release on a Nintendo platform since 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts and the first game since Ghosts to skip PS4 and Xbox One.
